I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday in which they were surrounded by family and friends and wonderful food. I spent the day threshing beans in the barn (great rainy day activity in the fall). These first two photos are the result. First is Tiger Eye and the next picture is Saturday Night Special (an heirloom variety developed by a Maine breeder several decades ago). There are lots more to do and it's tiresome work so I'll save it for another day.
Meanwhile, here is the latest progress from our hens. We now have one laying brown eggs. Either the Rhode Island Red or the Buff Orpington is laying, haven't caught her in the act yet though. We're now getting eggs from two chickens and the others should come on board soon. Also, we're planning on getting a couple more from a mix up when we ordered with Living Land Farm (another small, family farm with which we collaborate on lots of things). Can't wait to have them too. Turns out I love watching the chickens and caring for them. Lizzie really likes them too. She is bursting to touch them (until they decide to get close to her and then she's behind my leg peeking out.)
